Opening narration: “Joey Crown, musician with an odd, intense face, whose life is a quest for impossible things like flowers in concrete or like trying to pluck a note of music out of the air and put it under glass to treasure…Joey Crown, musician with an odd, intense face, who in a moment will try to leave Earth and discover the middle ground-the place we call the Twilight Zone.”
Joey Crown is a man down on his luck. He has taken to drinking, and one night decides to commit suicide by throwing himself in front of a truck. After being hit he comes to, and visits his favorite places. As it turns out he can’t be seen or heard, and casts no reflection. Drawn by the sound of a trumpet, Joey meets a man in a tuxedo, who can see and hear him, and knows his name. The man informs Joey that he is between life and death, and that it is his choice. Joey chooses life. As the man departs, Joey asks his name. The man replies, “Gabriel.”
Closing Narration: “Joey Crown, who makes music, and who discovered something about life; that it can be rich and rewarding and full of beauty, just like the music he played, if a person would only pause to look and to listen. Joey Crown, who got his clue in the Twilight Zone.”
